ISSUES IN SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA

Dear Friend of Joseph's, 16 July 2010

We have just begun our campaign to raise enough money to cover the $65,000+ weed abatement lien to prevent a stranger (or San Diego County) from taking Joseph's land away at public auction. The auction is scheduled about seven 7 months from now. With your help, we can do it.

Please go to the link below and select the sponsorship level you feel comfortable in offering. We'll give you regular updates on how much money we have raised.

Thank you so much!!!

Vet Faces Eviction From Desert Home

Friend, 11 July 2010

We have decided to place our faith in you. Within the next several weeks we will begin a major fundraising effort to save Joseph's land. This will include numerous events where Joseph will be sharing his wisdom through evening conversations and weekend workshops. We're sure many of you will be the first to reserve a spot. With your help, we can do this. It's time to turn the tide.

More details will be forthcoming, but here's our current schedule:

An Evening Conversation with Joseph: Two available sessions - August 10 or 12. 6:30 PM to 11PM. Join Joseph on his land in eastern San Diego County to learn about how to live lightly on the land, expand your respect for nature, and share the wisdom of clay. Includes a tour of Joseph's home, healthy snacks, and an intimate conversation around the fire. Limit: 15 people. Cost: $75.

A Weekend Workshop with the Earth: August 13-15. Begins Friday night at 6:30PM and ends Sunday afternoon at 3PM. Join Joseph on his land for three days to learn the wisdom of the earth by working with clay. Joseph will help you to gain a better understanding of the land and yourself by shaping your own clay vessel, listening to nature, and exploring new ideas. Includes evening discussions, two overnight stays, and healthy food. Limit 10 people. Cost: $325.

If you are interested in any of events listed above, please reserve your spot soon via email. We will send additional information shortly.

Blessings, Joseph and Rick

In defense of the unjust $63,000 forced weed abatement tax lien placed on Joseph Diliberti's land, San Diego County Tax Collector Dan McAllister said, "He ought to come in and set up a payment plan."
Diliberti is a Vietnam veteran who survives on disability checks. He will become homeless if the county carries through on its threat to auction off his land to collect on the lien after July 1, 2010.
McAllister is up for re-election June 8.

Dear Friends, 14 May 2010

We visited with Joseph yesterday and had a wonderful conversation about building with clay, the incredible number of animals that live and sing on his property, and our progress in helping him keep his land. Friends Randy and Chuck were also there. Randy is a remarkable young man who has endeavored to spread the spirit of peace to others through his own activism. And Chuck, another kindred spirit dedicated to spreading the truth about peace and many other issues that so many Americans fail to recognize, has been instrumental in getting the word out to veterans groups.
Here's his latest: http://vetspeakblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/action-alert-vietnam-veteran-joe.html

Unfortunately, it takes money to fight, obtain solid legal advice, and organize. If you think you can spare an additional donation or would like to make your first one, it would be extremely helpful. You can do so by clicking the button at the bottom of this email.

June 1 Fire Board Meeting - Please Join Us!

We are planning on attending the June 1, San Diego Rural Fire Protection District board meeting in Jamul, but this time we will have requested to be on the agenda. We sent a letter yesterday making that request. You can obtain a copy of our letter at the link below. It also includes information on how many other citizens have had their rights abused by the forced clearance of native vegetation from their land:

http://www.californiachaparral.org/images/SDRFPD_letter.pdf

If you would like to take an active part in our efforts, attending the June 1st meeting is excellent way to do so. The meeting starts at 7PM. We will be asking the District to acknowledge their mistake in allowing a $25,000 lien to placed on Joseph's property. The more of us who show up, the better. We expect extensive media coverage. This would also be a great time to meet Joseph if you haven't had a chance to do so.

Please RSVP if you think you would like to join us!

Best, Rick

April 15, 2010 — Joseph Diliberti, a distinguished USMC Vietnam veteran, discusses how a warrior deals with the horror of war. This story is especially poignant because San Diego County is planning to take Joseph's home away from him after July 1, 2010. The county is doing so to obtain payment on an unjust lien placed on Joseph's property because of a bungled "weed abatement" order. Joseph was never notified about the order nor was he home when the clearance work was done.
